Cell Organelle

Concept Explanation

Cell Organelle

Large and small cells need a lot of chemical activities to perform their process. All the chemical reactions of cell occur in the cytoplasm. There are many small cytoplasmic bodies suspended in the cytoplasm. These are mitochondria, golgi bodies, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, etc. These are called cell organelles. This is the main feature that separates eukaryotic cells from prokaryotic cells.

  • The membrane surrounding these cell organelles is called as the unit membrane. The cell organelles can be of different types based on the number of membranes present around them.  Organelles like Mitochondria, Chloroplast and Nucleus are double membrane cell organelles.
  • The organelles which are surrounded by single membrane are Endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi bodies, Vacuoles etc.
